Some Words

The spread or separation, distance, stretching, scattering that exists between one artist and another is one of the grounds upon which contradictory drives such as desire, fear, veneration or anxiety that affect the artist and their work originate.

That distance is to a large extent a measure of what one is, of the inevitable morphology of our subjectivity and a fundamental ingredient in the possibility of surprise or discovery that the work of art provides.

The "spread" partly explains the profound relationship that can arise between objects that in appearance have little to do with one another, in which nevertheless immaterial bonds are produced that manifest as a flash.

For this exhibition Alfredo Rodríguez selects sculptures by artists he admires and with whom he has established closeness to produce a series of works resulting from the interaction of light with them and which employs unorthodox photographic processes that distance themselves from the literal photographic image. The result is the creation of another thing that will inevitably remain tied symbolically and physically to the body (the work) that gave it form.
