Jesús Galiana

Hay una inercia en nuestras vidas, una red de urgencias que envuelve la mente en una matriz paranoica. Y sin embargo, aunque solo sea de manera intermitente, todos tenemos momentos en los que ya sea por calma o por tormenta aparece y se impone la conciencia.

Jesús Galiana dibujante y publicista, desciende a los abismos al ser diagnosticado de Parkinson a los 39 años. Tras una época de negación y auto-medicación compulsiva, Galiana decide abandonar su tratamiento poniendo en riesgo su vida.

Todo lo que acontece tras este peligroso acto de voluntad está excelentemente narrado en su libro “La señal perdida”, es a raíz de ahí cuando nace en Galiana la determinación y la claridad mental adecuadas para consagrar su vida al arte.

Galiana concibe la pintura como lo que acontece en ese lugar intermedio entre la abstracción y la figuración en la frontera donde transitan los sueños y lo inconsciente.

Para que el lienzo devenga horizonte de sucesos es necesario un “estar presente” durante todo el proceso y una renuncia a los trucos, miedos, expectativas de una pintura más racional y planificada.

There is an inertia in our lives, a network of emergencies that wraps the mind in a paranoid matrix. And yet, even if only intermittently, we all have moments when, either by calm or by storm, consciousness appears and prevails.

Jesús Galiana, cartoonist and publicist, descended into the abyss when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's at 39 years old. After a period of denial and compulsive self-medication, Galiana decided to abandon his treatment, putting his life at risk.

Everything that happened after this risky act of will is excellently narrated in his book “La señal perdida (The Lost Signal)”. As a result of that determination and mental clarity, a dedication was born in Galiana to consecrate his life to art.

Galiana conceives painting as what happens in that intermediate place between abstraction and figuration, on the border where dreams and the unconscious transit.

For the canvas to become a horizon of occurrences, it is necessary to “be present” throughout the process and to renounce the tricks, fears and expectations of a more rational and planned painting.
